Pumpkin Spice Everything!

Sorry for my prolonged absence from the blog, but I’ve had a ridiculous amount of stuff going on in my life the past few months.  I hope to have some more time in the near future to blog, but most likely I won’t be back to regular blogging until November.  I appreciate each and everyone of you that has been checking in over the past couple months to see any updates!  I promise, more to come on what’s been going on in the future! (Some BIG things)

In the meantime, it’s pumpkin spice season and I can’t let it pass without blogging about it!  I broke out my Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice tshirt last week while enjoying my fifth pumpkin spice Starbucks of the season and realized when someone asked me where I got it, that the company who made mine went out of business.  🙁

I decided to check out Etsy to see if anyone else sold a similar one and found an amazing amount of PS inspired stuff.  There are tons of tees, but I also found a lot of other stuff.  I thought I would put together a quick round up of my faves for everyone.

Basic AF Mug

How hilariously appropriate is this mug?  I absolutely need this one!  I might be basic, but I don’t care cause pumpkin spice is freaking delicious!!

Pumpkin Spice Socks
These socks crack me up!  I definitely need these for around the house.  Perfect thing to pair with a Starbucks gift card.

Pumpkin Spice Girl Tote

How cute is this tote for Fall?  Easy to tuck into a care package for your fave college student to use around campus.

Pumpkin Spice Tee

If you are like me and can’t say no to a PS, this is the shirt for you!

Pumpkin Spice Card

The perfect card to include with any gift this Fall!  And the shop (LilyandVal) is based in Pittsburgh, my hometown!  Even better!

Want to see the rest of my picks?  Check out my Pumpkin Spice Pinterest board here!

Thanks again for checking out the blog and I promise lots more to come soon!!

Best Christmas Nail Art

I love to go crazy with my nails for Christmas and thought you might want to see some nail art I’ve sported last and this year!  All nail art on my nails was done at Dallas Beauty Lounge in Pittsburgh, PA.  My very favorite place to get nail art!  I’ve never brought in an idea that they couldn’t create and make even better!

Christmas Nail Art

I went in to last my nail appointment all set to get these and ended up getting something different at the last minute.  These are still in the running for my final appointment before Christmas.  Originally found here.

These snowflake nails are what I ended up with at my last appointment.  I love them!  Super subtle ode to the season that’s easy to wear everyday!  Nail art by Kalynn at Dallas Beauty Lounge in Pittsburgh, Pa.

These whimsical ornament/snow globe nails were some of my faves from last year.  I came in with a couple of different ideas and Kate from Dallas Beauty Lounge combined them into these!

These chalkboard nails were so adorable in person!  Kate from Dallas Beauty Lounge did a fantastic job in creating these for me!

I need your help in deciding what to get for my last appointment before Christmas!  The first idea is at the top of this post and here’s a couple more.  As usual, I pulled these ideas from Instagram.  Give me a follow here.  Let me know in the comments which you think I should get!

These are a strong contender!  I love the Christmas tree on top of the car image in general, so to see it recreated on nails made me squee!  Nail art by Sierrasnails via Instagram.

This gorgeous Christmas tree caught my eye on Instagram.  I love the impact of it on one nail versus having a bunch of images on various nails.  Would be lovely with hunter green nails too.  Nail art by Sierrasnails via Instagram.

This Starbucks cup inspired art by Nailstorming is reminiscent of my own ornament nail art, but I like the simplicity of this being just red and white.  Nail art by Nailstorming via Instagram.

I love these teeny tiny Christmas trees and I think paired with tiny candy canes would be really cute!  I am super into the teeny tiny designs, so this could be a winner.  Nail art by Minipolishh via Instagram.

Which one do you think I should pick?  Let me know in the comments !

Modern Mercantile

I’ve been driving by Modern Mercantile for over a year on my way to work and have always loved their window displays, but had never stopped in.  I finally had time last month to check out the store and wasn’t disappointed.

For those who don’t follow my route to work (HA!), it’s located on Main Street in Carnegie, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

The first thing that caught my eye was a display of amazing bags made of repurposed tents.  They are so well made and would make fantastic gifts.  (I kind of want to lose my laptop bag to make an excuse to buy one)  Choices ranged from handbags, totes, smaller electronic bags, laptop bags and keychains.  The owner told me they will be restocking through the holidays.

Modern Mercantile

Modern Mercantile had jewelry, dog and cat toys and treats, and décor items spread throughout the space.  I especially loved the initial key chains made from recycled license plates and the collar attachable bow ties for dogs.  They also have their own private label laundry, bath soaps and candles.  All smelled amazing and are locally made!

Modern Mercantile

I saw so many things that would be perfect for gifts, I can’t wait to come back and shop some more! After petting shop dog Rufus, we went next door for some ice cream at the Flying Squirrel.

Have you been to Modern Mercantile? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2016

Before Pittsburgh got their own Nordstrom, I wasn’t very aware of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Now that we do have one, I am super stoked to be counting down the days until the 2016 sale!  If you shopped it before, I know you are counting the days too and if you haven’t, you need to check it out pronto!  It’s like Christmas in July for sure!

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a once a year sale where they take Fall merchandise and temporarily mark it down, allowing you to buy your Fall must have’s ahead of time.  Once the sale is over, the prices go back to normal.  Nordstrom selects items they feel are either a staple or a trendy item for Fall.  It’s a great way to get started on school shopping for yourself or your kids and it’s a great time to buy a winter coat, purse, etc.  Or if you are one of those people who start Christmas shopping super early, this is the sale for you.  Stock on each item is limited, so you want to act fast when you see something you want.

If you are a Nordstrom card holder, there is a presale starting July 14th.  If you aren’t a card holder, the sale opens up to the public on July 22nd.  August 7th is the last day to get the sale prices and on August 8th, the prices go back to normal.  No joke, they really do.  This isn’t like a Macy’s one day sale that happens every weekend.

Another tip, if you have a Nordstrom card triple points day you have been saving, arrange to use it on the day you are shopping the sale!

Don’t have a Nordstrom near you?  Nordstrom always offers free shipping.  I tend to purchase a lot online, knowing I can take it back in store or send it back if it doesn’t work.  The only thing I have to go into the store for is shoes. I don’t have the kind of feet that are universally the same size in every brand, so I like to try them out before buying.

What are the best deals?  These are just my opinion based on checking out the sale the last couple years.

Boots-Every kind of boot from booties to over the knee are on sale.  The best boot selection ever at Nordstrom!

Coats-I mentioned before it’s the best time to buy a coat for you or your kids!

Jeans-Plenty of designer jeans on sale

Makeup-Many brands do special items and special gift with purchase deals for the sale.  These I may go in person to check out!

Watches-Plenty of designer watches marked down.

Purses-My kryptonite!  The absolute best prices on purses you are going to want for Fall.  All kinds of designers from my beloved Rebecca Minkoff to Kate Spade and more.

Here’s some of my shoe picks from last year’s Anniversary Sale.  I’m sure they will have similar offerings this year.

Are you excited about the Anniversary Sale? I’d love to hear what you are looking for this year in the comments!

Rainy Day Roundup

I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but here in Pittsburgh, we have had a crazy couple of weeks of weather, torrential downpours, snowstorms, freezing cold one day, and 65 degrees the next.  It’s hard to know what to wear day to day.  I guess it is just regular April weather, but it just seems to be so vastly different from one day to the next.

The rain really gets to me after awhile, but I always feel like a super cute umbrella helps me out.  I gathered together some of the best, relatively affordable umbrellas I could find.  I personally can’t see spending $400 and up on an umbrella, but clearly there’s a market for them.  That would be one you surely wouldn’t lose!

Rainy Day RoundupBlue Sky Umbrella

What could be better than a blue sky lined umbrella on a rainy day? I don’t have this umbrella, but I do have one with a colorful liner and it always makes me happy when I use it.

Sunflower Umbrella

Sunflower Umbrella

I actually had this umbrella for a long time, my sister bought it for me for my birthday.  I used it faithfully until a co-worker borrowed it and broke it!  People commented on it all the time!

Rainbow Umbrella

This umbrella would brighten up everybody’s day!  So chipper!

Prince UmbrellaPrince Umbrella

I do not have words for how awesome this Prince umbrella is!

Birdcage Umbrella

Birdcage Umbrella

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have a hard time seeing where I am going with a large umbrella, see through umbrellas solve that problem and I love this Birdcage version!

Carnival Stripe UmbrellaCarnival Stripes Umbrella

This one is expensive, but so, so cute!  It’s like a walking carnival going down the street!  I totally love it, but I would have a really difficult time trying to justify that price.

Gerber Daisy Umbrella

Gerber Daisy Umbrella

Similar to the Sunflower version, this Gerber Daisy umbrella is so fun!  I guarantee you would brighten everyone’s day sporting this!

Ruffle Umbrella

Ruffle Umbrella

If you are someone who needs your fabulousness to be a little more low key, then this ruffle umbrella is for you.  It’s super feminine, but subtle.  So pretty!

Dog Umbrella

Dog Umbrella

And lastly, the umbrella for the dog who has everything.  While their paws would still get wet, this would keep their coat dry.  Especially when you have a dog that won’t wear a raincoat!

If you like these, I have some additional umbrellas save to my Spring Trends 2016 Pinterest board here.  I’d love if you checked it out!

Halloween Decor

I went to my happy place over the weekend-Home Goods and found a ton of Halloween decor.  I’m not a big Halloween decorator, I tend to be more fallish instead of strict Halloween, so that it lasts me from September-November.  These super cute items could change my mind though!

Halloween China

This Halloween china is adorable! At first glance, you can’t really tell there are Halloween designs. I took a close up of the cake stand to let you see.  I completely wanted to take all of it home with me!

Halloween Cake Stand

Look at the detail on this china! Witches, black cats, webs, skulls! So cute!

Skeleton Candle Holder

I loved this skeleton candle holder, I imagine it would make great shadows on your walls while the candle is burning! Dancing skeletons anyone?

Bone Candle

There were quite a few different Halloween themed candles at Home Goods.  These bone candles were probably my favorite.

Halloween Candles

How about the Frankenstein and Mummy couples?  Definitely go look for these candles in your store!

Sparkly Pumpkin

I ended up leaving with this sparkly pumpkin.  It now holds court in my office.  I always appreciate a little sparkle in my day!

Home Goods also had adorable dog costumes and a few children’s costumes in stock.  Tons of ceramic pumpkins, vase fillers, wall hangings, wreaths and other décor items.  Definitely worth checking out!

Are you a big Halloween decorator? When do you start? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Trainwreck Movie Review

Salty Blonde Movie Review: Trainwreck

It was so hot in Pittsburgh this weekend, that we decided to catch a movie.  We agreed to go see Trainwreck, the Amy Schumer movie.  I thought you might want to hear my take (and my husband’s) on the movie.

Amy has been told from an early age that commitment is impossible and is living her life by that credo.  She has an apartment, a job and a sort of boyfriend.  She drinks too much, smokes too much weed and hooks up with random people on a frequent basis.  Your basic trainwreck, but who isn’t a little bit of a trainwreck themselves?

As we begin to see Amy’s life, we see the reasons behind some of her decisions and while we may not agree with them, we understand them a bit more.  There are tons of laughs in this movie, mostly provided by the assorted comedians and athletes sprinkled throughout the story.

I thought the movie was about 20 minutes too long, but definitely funny.  I laughed a lot. I loved the famous cameos who were willing to make fun of themselves and their images.  I’m not giving anything away by saying LeBron James is in it a ton, since he is in the previews.  He is actually a pretty good actor, I was pleasantly surprised.

I rate movies by a “how much I am willing to pay to see them” scale (Free on Network TV, Pay Channel, DVD, Matinee, Full Price).  We saw this as a matinee, but I would pay full price to see this, which is hearty praise!

Mr. Salty Blonde’s Take: It’s funny.

He’s a man of few words.

Did you see Trainwreck this weekend?  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
