Keep Tulips From Drooping

I love to have tulips in the house during the winter, because they make me feel like Spring is still a possibility no matter how cold out it currently is!  I found tulips for $3 a bunch at our local grocery store the other day and had to grab some since it was artic here this weekend.

The one thing about tulips that can be a bummer, is their tendency to droop, as soon as you put them in the vase.  I tried a Pinterest trick this time and it worked!  I actually combined two common tricks, so not 100% sure which one was the secret, but both are so easy, I don’t mind repeating them both.

First, I left the tulips in their store binding overnight.  Meaning, I took them out of the plastic envelope/bag thing you carry them in, but I left them attached to each other by the bindings/bands and stuck them in a vase of water.  The reasoning behind this trick, is because tulips are hollow stemmed, keeping them together allows them to absorb the water without drooping.

I also added a penny to the water in the vase.  I’ve read about this trick for a couple years and always forget to do it.  I honestly don’t know the reason for it, but I am sure it changes the alkaline of the water.

It’s been a few days, and so far so good as you can see below.  Aren’t they so pretty?   A few of the leaves have drooped and the tulips aren’t standing straight up and down like a soldier, but I like them a little more natural myself.  This is a huge improvement from the last time I bought tulips, so I am declaring this a Pinterest Success!!

Quick and Easy Christmas Crafts

The countdown is upon us and Christmas is almost here!  December is going really fast I think.  I am all set on my gifts, but because of our dog, I haven’t been able to decorate like I usually do.  Because of that, I feel like I am not quite prepared yet!

I also haven’t done one Christmas craft this year!  To rectify that situation, I gathered up a couple quick and easy Christmas crafts that I thought you might want to see too!

Quick and Easy Christmas Crafts

This Merry craft is super quick and definitely super easy!  It’s made with pipecleaners and  pre-wrapped burlap.  Full tutorial is found here.   PS: I need to find this pre-wrapped burlap for some other crafts stat!

Quick and Easy Christmas Crafts

I fell in love with this Gingerbread Hula Girl felt ornament!  They used a cutting machine to create the Gingerbread base, but you could use a cookie cutter and trace it on felt too.  I’m going to have to make some of these!  Find the tutorial here.

Quick and Easy Christmas Crafts

Pom-pom garlands are super quick and easy to create and can be modified for every holiday.  This one was created for Valentine’s Day, but I think it fits for Christmas too.  Find the tutorial here.

Five Summer Projects for Adults

I want to start off by saying thanks for sticking with the blog over the past few weeks.  I’ve had a lot going on and unfortunately, the blog is the first to go when time is short.  I’m back today with five fun summer projects for adults.  I have tons of projects saved on my Pinterest boards and used to go crazy buying the supplies and then not actually doing the project!  I decided awhile ago, to make a list of the projects I wanted to accomplish in a set time period and only concentrate on those.  It seems to help my crafting A.D.D.!

Here’s my five summer projects for this summer.

ONE

Eugenia Kim Sun HatEugenia Kim Sun Hat

You probably have seen these blogger fave Eugenia Kim hats everywhere.  They are in my opinion, crazily priced.  Apparently, I am not the only one who thinks that, because there are DIYs all over the net.  I like this tutorial from Me and Mr Jones the best.

I am all ready to go on this craft, I just need to pull the trigger.  I found the sun hat at Forever XVI for $14 and bought the sequin trim ribbon at Joann’s.   The only thing holding me up is getting the writing right.  I am overthinking it and just need to do it!  Let me know if you make one too!  It’s adorable for vacation shots!

TWO

Boho Flower Hoops

This tutorial isn’t in English, but it’s fairly easy to figure out.

I saw a woman with a cape at a Steeler game a couple years ago, she told me her grandmother made it for her, which was amazing!  I think I finally found a tutorial for a cape I can make myself and am so excited!  Full tutorial is here.

FIVE

Tea Towel Totes

Tea Towel Tote

I have a couple Cat Studio state dishtowels I bought for souvenirs.  I planned to make pillows out of them for my home office, but looking at these adorable tea towel totes, I may make one of those instead!  Full tutorial is here.

Celebrate Shark Week

Shark Week 2016 starts on Sunday, June 26th on Discovery Channel.  Just in case you haven’t ever watched it before, they spend every night of the week airing shark based shows.  I always learn something during the week that I wasn’t aware of about sharks and it’s just fun to get in the spirit of Shark Week!

To celebrate Shark Week, I pulled together some cute clothing and home items featuring sharks that will put you well on your way to joining the devotees!

Memorial Day Nails

Memorial Day is right around the corner and as usual, it’s a combo of patriotism and the start of summer.  I thought it might be fun to round up some nail art that represents both sides of Memorial Day.  There’s tons more on my Nails Pinterest page.

Memorial Day Nails Roundup

Memorial Day Nails

American Flag Nail Art

This American Flag nail art from FabFatale is amazing.  It might be too much for me on every single nail but on one or two it would be awesome!

Memorial Day Nails

Camo and Flag Nail Art

Loving these Camo and Flag nails for Memorial Day.  I believe Nails by Nette created them for Veteran’s Day, but I love them for either holiday.

Memorial Day Nails

Patriotic Bow Nails

How cute are these Hello Kitty/Retro inspired Patriotic nails from Dressed Up Nails?   You could do this same idea in other colors too.

Memorial Day Nails

Picnic Nails

What’s Memorial Day without a picnic?  These picnic nails are hilarious.  I love the red checked picnic tablecloth and the Budweiser!

Memorial Day Nails

Camping Nails

Wondrously Polished actually created these for Father’s Day, but they depict Memorial Day to me too.  The tent on the middle finger is awesome!  (and kinda describes my thoughts on camping, if you get my drift)

See more of my faves here, on my Pinterest Nails board.

What are your Memorial Day plans? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

A super easy way to make it festive is to create tissue paper flowers to scatter around.  Directions via the link above via The Mamasgirls.com.

Gilmore Girls Gift Guide

By far, my most pinned photo on Pinterest is a Gilmore Girls sweatshirt.  Unfortunately, it isn’t available via my original source, so I thought I would look for something similar.  This led me to a plethora of Gilmore Girls stuff for sale on Etsy.  Any of these would make amazing gifts for yourself or your Gilmore Girls obsessed friend! And if they haven’t watched the show yet, pair one of these with some DVDs! Now on to my faves!

Stars Hollow Print

Stars Hollow Print

I love this Stars Hollow travel print.  It doesn’t scream TV show, so those who aren’t fans won’t even realize it’s based on one.

In Omnia Paratus Print

This Life and Death Brigade poster from the same Etsy seller is great too.  Again, if you aren’t a fan, you wouldn’t know it was related to a TV show.

Luke & Lorelai Print

I also love this Lorelai & Luke print.  Fingers crossed the revival being filmed now ends up with them together forever this time!

Women of Gilmore Girls

Women of Gilmore Girls Shirt

I always like these types of shirts, whether they are music, sports or even TV shows.  I especially like the fact that this one highlights the women of Stars Hollow versus the couples.

Gilmore Girls Charm Bracelet

I love the creativity of this Gilmore Girls Charm Bracelet.  Every time I look at it, I see something else that makes me remember an episode!

Isn’t this necklace cute?  Lovely reminder to take chances in life.

Gilmore Girls Sweatshirt

This is the sweatshirt that started it all.  It isn’t from the original seller (who no longer makes it), but it’s a very close replica.
