Every family spends Christmas Eve differently, some hold a fancy party, some go to church and dinner, and some spend it in their pajamas. My Christmas Eve is usually church and dinner followed by family time, so I need a more casual Christmas Eve outfit.
When I think Christmas, I tend to gravitate toward plaid, red or sparkly! Check out my faves below!
This plaid ruffle top is adorable and will take you from Christmas through the Spring. Find it here.
How cute is this sleeveless plaid bow top? You could wear with jeans, black pants, or a skirt and be so festive! Find it here.
I am in love with this shade of red, it’s gorgeous! This is the most practical of my picks, you can wear it for Christmas Eve and then to work. Perfect shirt to dress up or down. Find it here.
You have to have a festive sweater for Christmas! This one doesn’t scream Christmas, but still feels Christmas-y. Wear it with a puffer vest and jeans for a super casual Christmas Eve. Find it here.
This speaks to my sparkly heart! A black sequin tshirt could be worn for so many different occasions! I have a sequin tank top that I have worn a bunch of different ways and I think this tshirt would be even better! Wear it with black pants to go classic, with jeans to go casual, with a print bottom to be a little funky. Find it here.
Everybody needs a sequin mini at Christmas time! Perfect with a plaid or chambray shirt. Casual with a tee. Wear it with a turtleneck if it’s cold. So many ways to wear it! Plus you can reuse it for NYE! Find it here.
I’d love to hear about your Christmas eve plans in the comments below!
I love to go crazy with my nails for Christmas and thought you might want to see some nail art I’ve sported last and this year! All nail art on my nails was done at Dallas Beauty Lounge in Pittsburgh, PA. My very favorite place to get nail art! I’ve never brought in an idea that they couldn’t create and make even better!
I went in to last my nail appointment all set to get these and ended up getting something different at the last minute. These are still in the running for my final appointment before Christmas. Originally found here.
These whimsical ornament/snow globe nails were some of my faves from last year. I came in with a couple of different ideas and Kate from Dallas Beauty Lounge combined them into these!
These chalkboard nails were so adorable in person! Kate from Dallas Beauty Lounge did a fantastic job in creating these for me!
I need your help in deciding what to get for my last appointment before Christmas! The first idea is at the top of this post and here’s a couple more. As usual, I pulled these ideas from Instagram. Give me a follow here. Let me know in the comments which you think I should get!
This gorgeous Christmas tree caught my eye on Instagram. I love the impact of it on one nail versus having a bunch of images on various nails. Would be lovely with hunter green nails too. Nail art by Sierrasnails via Instagram.
I love these teeny tiny Christmas trees and I think paired with tiny candy canes would be really cute! I am super into the teeny tiny designs, so this could be a winner. Nail art by Minipolishh via Instagram.
Which one do you think I should pick? Let me know in the comments !
Do you have any makeup addicts on your list this year, but you don’t want to add to their stash? It can be hard to know what they already have! If this is your situation, then this is the list for you!
This mug made me actually laugh out loud. The perfect gift for your eyebrow chick! Find it here.
The perfect addition to your makeup loving friend’s apartment. This lipstick throw pillow is adorable! Buy it here.
This little thing is highly coveted in the makeup world. It’s a silicon makeup applicator from Molly Cosmetics called the SiliSponge. If you score one of these, you are definitely going to be the hero of Christmas (FYI-they are majorly back ordered). It’s the newest foundation applicator out there and is reported to be better than the beauty blender. It doesn’t waste makeup, allows you to see your face while you use it and can be cleaned with soap and water. Find info on how to order it here.
I don’t know what rock I was living under, but I missed when this makeup brush cleaning machine launched. It’s basically a dishwasher for your brushes. It’s not like cleaning your brushes is that difficult, it’s just something you tend to forget to do. Find it on Amazon here.
Oval makeup brushes are all the rage on the makeup blogs, so get your makeup addict in on the action! These are mid-priced brushes, but you can find prices all over the board, so check out the choices. I do not own these particular brushes, but they have pretty decent reviews. Find them here.
You can never have too many makeup bags with cute sayings and the internet is full of them! Find this one here.
They may not sleep with their makeup on, but they will sleep on their makeup with these adorable lash pillowcases! Buy them here.
How perfect is this lipstick ornament? Someone more talented than I could DIY this, but if like me, you aren’t artistic, you can buy one from the Glam Studio Shop on Etsy here.
There are tons of funny makeup oriented tshirts out there at all price points. This one definitely applies to me and nude lipsticks! Get it here.
I wouldn’t be sad to find any of these under my own tree! Which one is your fave? I’d love to hear in the comments!
I think (fingers crossed!) I am finally done with my Christmas shopping. I need to go through my purchases to make sure I didn’t forget anyone, but other than a few things I am waiting on delivery of, I should be good. If you are done too, congrats! And if you aren’t, I am thinking you might have just a few more difficult people to buy for left on your list. I wasn’t going to do gift guides this year, but I thought a few geared toward very specific types might be helpful. If you are like me, you save those hard to buy for people for last, because you are still searching for something good to buy them.
I’m starting with the girly girl, your bff, your sister, maybe you. They are sometimes hard to buy for, because they already have everything! I know people say that about me sometimes. I, of course, always have a list at the ready, so I thought I would share some of the things on it with you.
Angel Wings Scarf
This scarf is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. Does your person love taking Instagram photos? Are they dramatic? Do they just love pretty things? If those are all yeses, then I think this is the gift for them! It comes in other colors, but I love the black and white. I found it on Etsy from seller Shovava.
Are they the queen of messy buns? The bun cuff was released by Chloe and Isabel last year and ups your bun game with style. It can be worn as a bracelet or as a hair accessory. It’s really easy to use and it comes in many different finishes. Rose Gold and Gold are my faves. I am starting to see knock-offs of the original, so you know it’s a certified “thing” once that starts! You can find the Chloe and Isabel version here.
I’ve seen tassel earrings in a couple different stores this year, but my faves are from Bauble Bar. They come in a million colors and you can buy the super long ones or mini’s. Someone on my list may or may not be getting a set of these this year! You can buy them at Nordstrom or at Baublebar.com. In general, you can’t go wrong with Bauble Bar. I love so many things on their site this year! They are currently having a sale on their monogram items which are super cute. Find the mini’s here.
Silk Sleep Pillowcase
Girly girls are always working on keeping those wrinkles at bay and what better way to do it than with a silk pillowcase? Super luxe and something she probably wouldn’t buy for herself. Find it at Nordstrom here.
It’s hard to look girly when you are freezing, but this hat from Kate Spade manages to fit the bill! Comes in a couple colors, but I love the pink! Find it at Kate Spade here.
Rebecca Minkoff Isobel Tassel Hobo
This bag is gorgeous! I love Rebecca Minkoff bags in general and own a Regan. The leather the brand uses is super luxe and this bag is really ready for anything. You can wear it to work or casual. It comes in a couple different colors. Find it at Nordstrom here.
Kate Spade Glitter Shoe Keychain
So, no Girly Girl Gift Guide would be complete without shoes on it! I would think it would be awkward to buy shoes for a friend, so this is the next best thing! Find it at Kate Spade here.
Which of these do you want to find under your tree? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
I am not sure what rock I was hiding under last year, but I didn’t find out about the special Sephora VIB member sale until after it was happening. It’s a 20% off sale on everything at Sephora for two weekends in November and then again in the Spring. Access (and which weekend you can shop on) depends on how much you spend at Sephora and which level you have reached. Unfortunately, Beauty Insiders are not eligible for the sale.
Monday is the last day for the Sephora VIB 20% off sale. If you haven’t already made your purchases, you still have time to get to the store or buy online. I tried to be reasonable in my wish list because I already have quite the makeup stash (aka hoard), but that 20% off gets me every time!
I’ve been looking to up my skin care game and I was debating between this brand and Sunday Riley. I haven’t tried any Drunk Elephant products, but I have read rave reviews and I thought the gift set might be a good way to try a variety. I ultimately went with this brand over the other based on this mix of products being more what I was looking for. You won’t go wrong with Sunday Riley either. Neither is cheap, so the 20% off helps.
I actually own this Tarte Palette already. It’s the original Tartelette Palette and has the matte shadows. I use it pretty much every day. I’m not ready for a new one yet, but I would highly recommend picking it up during the sale if you don’t already own.
I have lots of make up junkie friends who swear by this Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray and by the fact that my local Sephora only had two left, I think they are right! Made to set your makeup, I think it’s something I wouldn’t normally buy, but on sale, I am intrigued.
I don’t own this palette (yet) and to be honest I don’t usually love Naked palettes. I know, kick me out of the makeup gang, but they usually are way too glittery for me. This one is different though, it has soft matte colors. It’s basically every color I would pick if I made my own palette.
I need new clothes like I need a hole in my head, so I tried to be reasonable when adding some new fall additions to my closet. I thought you might like to see some of my purchases and hear about something I am still on the hunt for.
I bought this maroon and black plaid camp shirt at Torrid. It’s extra long which I love. I also love that it’s not your standard red and black plaid. I’ve worn it a couple times and it’s really comfy.
I also bought this AMAZING olive green military inspired jacket at Torrid. I had to go to two different stores to find it, but it was well worth it. I will admit, I did feel a bit Janet Jackson circa Rhythm Nation, the first time I wore it, but I got over that! I seriously want to wear it everyday! Apparently, I am not the only one, because it is currently sold out online. You may luck out and find one in store. Definitely worth checking out.
I fell in love with this Ruffle Bow Blouse from Eloquii. It comes in a deep red and a yellow also. It’s hard to read it in the photo, but the detail on the blouse is awesome. It’s super girly, yet in black it’s a real statement piece. You can wear it with jeans or a suit. Highly recommend this item!
P.S. For those of you who haven’t ordered from Eloquii yet, I always order a size up. They charge a restocking fee, so I would always rather err on the side of too big rather than too small.
Again, the photo doesn’t do these jeans justice. They are boyfriend jeans with distressed patches and the patches are lined with metallic gold fabric! Can you tell I am excited about these?!?! I bought them on the loose side because they are boyfriend style. I cannot wait to wear these!
Those of you who follow me on Instagram, have already seen this beauty. I bought this Plaid Bag at the Kate Spade Outlet in Florida. I can’t find it online, but you can call an outlet and if they have it in stock they will ship it to you. I may or may not have bought the matching scarf too!
I’m still on the hunt for the perfect booties, but haven’t found the right price point, style and fit yet. I know Nordstrom will have what I want, but at a price I probably don’t want to spend!
What did you add to your closet this Fall? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
It’s October and that means it’s a return to Fall, Halloween, Football and everything turning pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The best thing you can do to celebrate October is schedule your own mammogram. I unfortunately have had friends with breast cancer and some discovered it via a mammogram and others noticed a lump on their own and pursued it with their doctor. No matter how it is discovered, it is vital to discover it as early as possible. Do not let fear of a mammogram ( or the results) make you delay getting yourself checked out! I’ve shared this before, but I am always amazed at how many women fear getting their first mammogram. For those of you who haven’t had a mammogram yet, I thought I would share these first-timer tips again.
1. Go to a center that specializes in mammograms. I’ve been to several different types of centers, all of which were certified in mammography and now go to a major women’s hospital for my mammogram. My reasoning for this is that I often need to have several different types of testing done and I prefer to do it all one after another versus waiting for my scans to be read on a different day and then making another appointment. At my center, a radiologist is on site to review scans real time, so I leave with my results. Other centers have a system where your results are mailed to you. Every center is different and the one I go to definitely takes much longer during the appointment than going to a suburban center, but works best for me personally. If you have a preference, ask your gynecologist for a recommendation or call and ask several centers in your area how and when the scans are read and results delivered to you.
If you switch between centers, you want to make arrangements ahead of time to have your previous scans sent to your new center for comparison.
2. Your day of instructions will say to not wear deodorant, lotion, powder of any kind that day. Be truthful when they ask you if you wore any, because it can show up on your mammogram. I try to make my appointments early in the day because of this.
3. Wear two piece clothing. You will be removing your top and bra and putting on a robe. Make sure you wear something easy to remove and comfortable. I wear very little to no jewelry that day just because I don’t want to have to keep track of it.
4. If you go to a big hospital screening center, bring a book, have a game on your phone or iPad to pass the time. In my particular case, I usually have to wait in between scans for the radiologist to read them and then go into the next set, so it helps cut down on nervousness and irritation if they are backed up and I have to wait.
5. Just go do it! It’s a few minutes of some minor discomfort. And I mean minor. Compared to everything else women go through, this is a piece of cake! Don’t be nervous about the process! It is a little disconcerting to have some one else move your breasts around the machine, but they do it all day, every day for a living, so just relax! The whole thing takes about 10 minutes from changing your clothes to having your mammogram done.
6. Don’t panic if they say you need to get a more detailed scan or a sonogram! Again, a few minutes for both and they just want to check something in more detail. It can be for a variety of reasons, usually because the tissue is dense, could be a cyst or maybe the picture just isn’t clear. Nothing to freak out about at all! You could be told immediately after your mammogram that a more detailed look is needed or you could receive a card in the mail or a call from the center.
I of course have to qualify this by saying I am not a medical professional and these tips are based on my personal experiences and preferences. Hopefully, this has made you feel a little more at ease and you will be scheduling yours this week!
