Friday Finds

Friday Finds from

It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a Friday Finds post and I have some great stuff to share!  For those of you who are new to the blog, Friday Finds are the things that have caught my eye over the past week via the internet.  I try to post them once a week, mainly to justify my Pinterest obsession!  If you want to see how bad that obsession is, check out my boards here!

Crown of Leaves

Photographer Lori Frederick has a super easy tutorial to make this fantastic crown of leaves.  Use it for dress up or a styled photo shoot.  I can imagine it being used in so many cute ways! Click the link under the photo for full tutorial.

Pumpkin Pie in a Glass

This Pumpkin Pie in a Glass shot from Kitchen Meets Girl is yum!  Made with Kahlua and who doesn’t love pumpkin?

Five Little Pumpkins

Did you leave your Halloween treats until the last minute?  Never fear, Balancing Home has a printable on their site for this Five Little Pumpkins treat bag topper.  Freaking adorable!  No one will know you waited til last minute!!

Bow Bag

How beautiful is this leather Bow Bag by Etsy seller Stacy Leigh? This may need to go on my Christmas wish list!

Eloquii Capelet Jacket

I’ve been stalking my mailbox waiting for this black capelet jacket to arrive and it finally did!  It’s even better in person.  Well made and fits beautifully!  I got mine from Eloquii, for 50% off.  They frequently have great pop up sales and I try to always post them on the blog Facebook page.  If you aren’t following me on FB yet, like my page here, so you don’t miss out.

What are you obsessed with this week? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Halloween Decor

I went to my happy place over the weekend-Home Goods and found a ton of Halloween decor.  I’m not a big Halloween decorator, I tend to be more fallish instead of strict Halloween, so that it lasts me from September-November.  These super cute items could change my mind though!

Halloween China

This Halloween china is adorable! At first glance, you can’t really tell there are Halloween designs. I took a close up of the cake stand to let you see.  I completely wanted to take all of it home with me!

Halloween Cake Stand

Look at the detail on this china! Witches, black cats, webs, skulls! So cute!

Skeleton Candle Holder

I loved this skeleton candle holder, I imagine it would make great shadows on your walls while the candle is burning! Dancing skeletons anyone?

Bone Candle

There were quite a few different Halloween themed candles at Home Goods.  These bone candles were probably my favorite.

Halloween Candles

How about the Frankenstein and Mummy couples?  Definitely go look for these candles in your store!

Sparkly Pumpkin

I ended up leaving with this sparkly pumpkin.  It now holds court in my office.  I always appreciate a little sparkle in my day!

Home Goods also had adorable dog costumes and a few children’s costumes in stock.  Tons of ceramic pumpkins, vase fillers, wall hangings, wreaths and other décor items.  Definitely worth checking out!

Are you a big Halloween decorator? When do you start? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

St. Augustine, Fl Trip Review

St Augustine Trip Review

If you follow me on Facebook (which you can do here), then you already know I recently took a trip to Florida.  I visited a few places, but primarily stayed in St. Augustine.  If you haven’t been there yet, it is a great place for a family vacation.  It boasts of being the very first European settlement in the US, has very calm beaches with some family friendly attractions, plus a charming downtown historic district.  It’s about an hour and a half from Jacksonville and two hours from Orlando, so you can fit it in while visiting some other popular Florida towns.

Early Morning St Augustine Beach

My number one reason to return to St Augustine is the beaches.  They are pristine, practically empty in some spots and you can drive on them.  I was blessed with amazing weather this trip, but I have visited during different times of the year and have always been able to spend some time on the beach.  I would caution you to check ocean temps in Jan-Mar, as they can be cold, but it’s always been warm enough to take a walk on the beach.

I love to park myself in a beach chair with a good book and my ice tea and just enjoy listening to the ocean.
The beach side of St Augustine also houses the St Augustine Lighthouse.  It is reportedly haunted and a big tourist attraction.  Climbing to the top rewards you with an amazing view of town across the way.

Bridge of Lions St Augustine Florida

If you need a break from the beach, venture into the town of St. Augustine via the Bridge of Lions to see the historic buildings.  Check out the shopping district on St. George Street for a variety of shops and restaurants tucked into nooks and crannies.  I’ll be back with some reviews of my favorites a little later in the month.

Lightner Museum St Augustine Fl

I’ve been to St Augustine a couple times and like to mix up what I tour each time I go.  I checked out the Lightner Museum while I was there this time and it had so many amazing views around every turn.   They hold weddings here and I can’t even imagine how gorgeous the photos turn out!

The Spanish influenced architecture is all over downtown St Augustine.  Below is a photo of the Basilica.  Be sure to check out the interior when you visit.

St Augustine Basilica

I happened upon this church having a pumpkin sale and couldn’t resist all the color.  Is this not the definition of October or what?

St Augustine also has an amazing dolphin habitat called Marineland, which I recommend for a low key dolphin experience.  The St Augustine Alligator Farm has an amazing assortment of reptiles for the kids too.  The Fountain of Youth was very touristy for my taste, but is very popular also.  For the educational portion of your trip, take the kids or your history buff to see the Castillo de San Marcos for a look at a real fort, complete with a cannon shoot and a view of the water.  Two outlet malls are located outside of St Augustine proper for those who crave a little retail therapy and there are too many restaurants to count.

Have you been to St Augustine? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Halloween Costumes

Have you been invited to the dreaded Adult Halloween party yet? How stressful is it to come up with a costume? I’ve had some good ones and some bad ones.  For the record, it is never a good idea to glue spiders to your face with eyelash glue.  Not that I would know or anything!  While going store bought is super easy, just expensive, the choices today are pretty slutty.  I know some people look at Halloween as a time to let out their inner stripper, I haven’t really understood why, though to each his own.  I always think of Halloween as more of a time to show your creativity.

Speaking of creativity, I found an amazing site that has nothing, but feature home made costumes.  It’s such a great resource!  Everything from babies to adults to pets!  I rounded up a couple of my adult favorites below, but be sure to check her out at Really Awesome Costumes here.  She links to each costume’s original post, so you can see the complete tutorials.

Pom Pom Clown Wig

I am not a big fan of clowns, but this clown wig made from yarn pom poms is really cool.  I linked to the actual tutorial, but found the photo on Really Awesome Costumes blog.

How freaking cool is this DIY piñata costume?  Love it! She used a tank dress and attached crepe paper streamers to it.  Easy to wear all night at a party, which for me is key!  Nothing worse than a big cumbersome costume all evening.

I don’t know why, but I like this flamingo costume.  It cracks me up.  I can just imaging myself standing on one leg at a party all night. Ha!

Social Media Icon Costumes

Great group costume above that would be easy to recreate.  Everyone goes as a different social media icon.  Their hand signals crack me up in this photo too.  You could even wear this one to work if your work does the dreaded costume day.

How about you? Are you a buyer or a maker? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Etsy Halloween

I was checking out Etsy this weekend and came across some super cute Halloween items.  I am always so amazed at the talent on Etsy.  Just crazy talented, inventive people.  I always feel like my attempts at crafts are pretty amateur looking when I am done.  Not these people on Etsy!  Amazing workmanship.  Maybe it comes with practice? If I actually make it through an entire craft project, it’s usually a one and done situation.  I don’t tend to make a hundred of them.  Maybe I need to change my strategy?

Spider Garland from DC Banner Designs on Etsy

Look at this spider garland! What a cute idea! I love it on the mantel, but there are ton of places you could use this, plus it would make an awesome background for Halloween party photos.  Available via Etsy seller DC Banner Designs.

Bat Book Art via Bookfolding on Etsy

Book art has been around blog land for awhile, but I haven’t seen anything like this bat before.  This Etsy seller has a ton of unique ideas.  Definitely worth checking out.  This piece could be displayed anywhere, mantel, end table, shelf.  Very subtle for those of us who avoid the over the top Halloween décor.

Finger Soaps via Howards Home on Etsy

How disturbing are these? Very lifelike fingers made from soap.  Imagine finding these in someone’s powder room! Perfect for your Halloween party or as a Hostess gift!  You could also really freak someone out by mailing them to someone! Very freaky!!

Fall Wreath from Yellow Birdie Boutique via Etsy

I really like this Fall Wreath via Etsy seller Yellow Birdie Boutique.  I love how you can keep it up for September, October, November.  It really spans everything up to Christmas.  This seller has a ton of really cute wreaths.  Definitely recommend checking her out.

Nail decals from NailThins via Etsy

How cute are these Halloween decals from Etsy seller NailThins?  You could pair them with white, orange or even lime green nails.  I am not huge on nail designs, but love these for Halloween, even if you only wore them on one finger.  I am sure little girls would love these too! At only $4 you could buy them for favors.

What have you found on Etsy lately? I would love to hear about it in the comments.
