Deen&#8217;s Crockpot Mac n Cheese"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mac n Cheese is one of those foods I love to eat, but hate to make.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just a huge pain to me to make it from scratch.\u00a0 And any time I&#8217;ve tried to make it, it hasn&#8217;t turned out great.\u00a0 I like a creamier mac n cheese and the recipes I have tried in the past have been too dry for my liking.\u00a0 Therefore, I was super excited to find Paula Deen&#8217;s recipe on Pinterest!<\/p>\n<p>I knew if it was a Paula Deen recipe it was going to be great!\u00a0 However, I was concerned about the calorie count.\u00a0 She isn&#8217;t known for her diet food.\u00a0 I checked around on Pinterest some more and found this version via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recipe-diaries.com\/2011\/11\/12\/crockpot-mac-and-cheese\/#_a5y_p=4273193\" target=\"_blank\">recipe-diaries.com<\/a>.\u00a0 She substituted some full fat items for low fat and declared it just as good.\u00a0 I mixed my version with low fat and full fat, because I haven&#8217;t found a low fat cheese that I can stand yet!<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I read this recipe, I was in, it is just much easier, at least to me, than the other versions I have tried.\u00a0 It is not something you can make and leave for the whole day, because it only stays in the crockpot for about 2 1\/2 hours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Ingriendients.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2449\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2449\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Ingriendients.jpg\" alt=\"Paula Deen's Crockpot Mac n Cheese\" width=\"480\" height=\"346\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Paula Deen&#8217;s Crockpot Mac n Cheese<\/strong> (slightly adapted)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni<\/p>\n<p>4 tablespoons butter<\/p>\n<p>2 1\/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese<\/p>\n<p>3 eggs<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup sour cream<\/p>\n<p>1 can condensed cheddar cheese soup<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/p>\n<p>1 cup whole milk<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 teaspoon dry mustard<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 teaspoon black pepper<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Boil the macaroni in water for six minutes.\u00a0 Drain and put aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a medium saucepan, mix butter and cheese.\u00a0 Stir until cheese melts (approx. 5 mins)<\/li>\n<li>In the crockpot, combine the melted cheese mixture and all other ingredients (I skipped the eggs).\u00a0 Add the drained macaroni and stir everything together lightly.<\/li>\n<li>Set crockpot to low and cook for 2 1\/2 hours, stirring occasionally.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As I noted above, I skipped adding the eggs and I don&#8217;t think it changed the integrity of the dish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Mac-N-Cheese.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2450\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Mac-N-Cheese.jpg\" alt=\"Paula Deen's Crockpot Mac n Cheese\" width=\"320\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Mac-N-Cheese.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.saltyblonde.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Mac-N-Cheese-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>How did it go?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We really liked it.\u00a0 It was very reminiscent of Stouffer&#8217;s mac n cheese.\u00a0 I am not a huge fan of sharp cheddar, so I felt it was a tad too sharp for me and my husband agreed.\u00a0 I think I will use a mix of mild and sharp the next time I make it.\u00a0 It was really easy to throw together and I think we probably could have eaten it at 2 hours versus 2 1\/2 hours.\u00a0 Overall, I think it was a win and I loved that I didn&#8217;t have to turn the oven on.\u00a0 I used a crockpot bag (I do every time I use the crockpot) so clean up was super simple, one pan!<\/p>\n<p>I would like to substitute some more of the ingredients to make it lower in calories next time too, though not sure I&#8217;ll ever be a fan of low fat cheese!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d
