Must Have Monday

Our weather in Pittsburgh was crazy this weekend, torrential rain, angry snow, and then it warmed up.  Bizarre!  I did get a chance to do some shopping during the amazing President’s Day sales going on, both online and in person! Here’s some of my fave finds of the weekend.

Cult Gaia Mini Ark

Have you checked out the “it” bag yet?  The Cult Gaia Mini Ark that is on backorder everywhere?  I love it for summer but I didn’t love the price!  I found an pretty identical look alike for much less on Amazon!

Bamboo clutch

Here’s the lookalike!  They are so similar it doesn’t make sense not to buy this one.  This one has great reviews on Amazon too.  Comes in a couple different colors.  I am torn between this color and the black.  Which would you pick?

Greece Sandal

Another lookalike for very pricey designer sandals!  These Steve Madden Greece Sandals keep selling out in my size in this color, so I may end up just getting the black.  I like that they don’t have a thong situation.  It’s so hard to find sandals that don’t have one.  Comes in a bunch of other colors but this one and the black are my faves.

Cutout Lounge Top

Lounge Wear

I have a similar set of this lounge wear that is heavier knit and I have been wearing around the house all winter.  When I saw this Spring version I had to pick them up during their 40% off sale this weekend.  It’s made out of the softest knit.  I can’t wait to wear it!

I’d love to hear about any of your finds in the comments below!  Have a great Monday and enjoy that extra day off if you get one!

Pottery Barn Finds

I was desperately in need of a 3 day weekend to just decompress from the last couple weeks, hang out with my husband and take care of some things around the house.

I did spend a bit of my weekend shopping and got the chance to check out Pottery Barn.  They were set up for Fall and starting to set up for Christmas, pretty much half and half.  I took a ton of photos and left with some great ideas for my own house.  I only had my phone with me, so I apologize for the quality.  I did catch a guy doing bicep curls with his shopping bag, but didn’t post it, though I was tempted!!

Xmas Tablescape

The first thing I saw was this Christmas tablescape.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the santa pants, which I think are wine holders, maybe? I did like the rest of it though and loved the simple centerpiece.

Xmas Tablescape Close up

I absolutely loved the simplicity and think I am going to do the same thing for my Christmas centerpiece.  Check out the cute placecard holders in the lower part of the photo near the logo.  Adore them!

Tree Tablescape

These birch candle holders can work for fall through Christmas.  They were lovely mixed in with the lit trees.  I was very tempted to buy them, but spoiler alert, I found them somewhere else cheaper.

Fall Arrangement

I even found inspiration in the Ladies room.  I had some of the basic materials to do a similar tablescape at home, so shot a photo for future reference.  It had a very Thanksgiving-y feel to me.

Fall Tablescape

I put together my own tablescape with a few things I already had and some new ones.  I had the rope handled glass bucket from Home Goods this summer.  I bought the vase filler and the birch candle from Home Goods (the birch candles were much cheaper there) and bought the tortoise candle holder at Pottery Barn.  I really wanted the large version of this candle holder because it is GORGE, but it is almost Christmas and I have to be aware of budgets!

Though now that I think of it, I think I have a Pottery Barn gift card around here somewhere!

Have you been to Pottery Barn lately or checked out the catalog?  What’s caught your eye? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Master Bedroom Makeover Ideas

We’ve finally found some time and money to make some changes to our master bedroom.   When we moved in, I bought a comforter and some lamps and that was about it for the next few years.  I spent my time and energy (and dollars) on the other rooms in our house.

We’ve started and stopped this makeover a few times.  My husband painted the room a few months ago (a greige color).  And then we stopped working on it. I’ve started sourcing a few things in the last few weeks to get the ball rolling and I think we are close to executing.

I started by creating a Bedroom Ideas Pinterest board here awhile ago.  I just started randomly pinning bedrooms and accessories I liked.  When I took a look at what I was consistently pinning, I came up with my theme.  I would call it a glam/comfy/classic look.  Think classic end tables, some crystal elements and layered bedding.  Here’s a few photos of what I’m thinking of. Master Bedroom Ideas Master Bedroom Ideas Master Bedroom Ideas I found all of these on Pinterest but couldn’t find the original links, so if you know of them, please let me know so I can properly give credit.

I’m also in love with Anthropologie’s bedding (who isn’t) but I don’t think that is in the price range. I’ll be on the lookout for some lower cost look-a-likes.  I go back and forth between the dark gray and the white.  Both are gorgeous.  Which would you pick?  Both photos below are from Anthropologie.

Anthropologie Must Haves

The last few weeks have been full of business travel, but in my limited free time, I did check out a couple things I think you might be interested in.

I think everyone loves how Anthropologie smells and when I stopped in the other day after lunch at BRGR with friends, I decided I was going to bite the bullet and buy the candle that causes that yummy smell!

Capri Bue Volcano candle alternative

These Capri Blue Volcano scent candles make your home smell delightful, but their price tag is a little steep for candles.  After buying the small version at Anthro ($12), I was determined to find a more cost effective solution.

Capri Blue Volcano candle alternative

After doing a little online research, I found that most people feel Target’s Bali Sunrise candle is very similar.  I bought one and at $10 for a medium size candle, it is definitely a bargain.  The candle does smell almost identical to the Volcano, but I have to say it doesn’t throw scent, as well as, my much smaller Volcano candle.  (Did you like how I threw in that candle terminology there? I’m so punny!! )

My husband can’t tell a difference, but I definitely do.  That being said, it pains me to spend $28 on a candle, so I think the large size will just stay on my wish list for now.  My interim solution is to burn two Target candles at once to intensify the scent.  They really do smell delicious!

Blax Snag Free Hair Ties

My second Anthropologie purchase were these Blax snag free hair elastics.   I am always looking for hair bands that won’t pull my hair, but are strong enough to hold all of it in my messy bun.  (Long hair problems) I’ve read really good things about these and so far so good.  I, of course, already lost one, but until then, it was comfortable and was holding my hair up.  You can also find these on Amazon here:4mm CLEAR Hair Elastics 8 ct by Blax.  They come in clear, brown and black.

Any Anthropologie must haves I missed?  Tell me about them in the comments!

Flamingo Roundup

If you haven’t seen it yet, Kate Spade’s newest launch involves flamingos.  I have to say, I love some of the pieces, but some kind of scare me!  She always includes some over the top pieces for the true fashionista.

While very cute, it’s hard for me to justify paying $130 for a flamingo scarf or $400+ for a dress.  I thought I would check around and see what cheaper alternatives I could find.  I am happy to report, I found a lot of choices.  I did include the Kate Spade flamingo swimsuit and cover up, as I didn’t see anything cuter in swim (except for the Ann Taylor cover up) and relatively speaking, they are pretty on par with the cost of a better swimsuit.  Is this a trend you are ready for? I think it fits in great with the other tropical trends we’ve been seeing this year.

And here’s a bit of flamingo trivia, a flock of flamingo’s is called a flamboyance!  What the what?

Pottery Barn Lighting Look ALikes

I consider myself quite the online investigator, especially if it involves a bargain. I love the look of Pottery Barn and I love even more finding that look cheaper!  I’ve been looking for a new light to update our entryway and I was surprised at how many Pottery Barn look alikes I was able to locate.    I could have researched these all night!  Here’s a roundup of some of my finds!

Leopard Print Clutch

 Claire V Fold Over ClutchVia

I have been lusting after this Clare Vivier leopard clutch for months now.  It’s been all over Pinterest in many inspiration pins for good reason.  I love it, but don’t love the price.  Imagine my happiness, when I found not one, but two tutorials on how to make a look a like clutch for much less.  I don’t generally buy knock off, but I am ok with creating my own inspired piece. I know, probably semantics, but I feel like if I put the effort in to make it myself, it’s a bit more genuine.

DIY Fold Over Clutch from Extra Petite

This tutorial from’s blog looks like I might actually be able to do it.  She made hers without a lining, planning on adding one later. You could always keep your smaller items in a baggie and not make a liner at all.  You could also actually adapt this tutorial and sew it by hand instead of via a machine.  Might be easier due to the thickness of the material. I think hers turned out great.

DIY Leopard Clutch by CreateBakeCelebrate

CreateBakeCelebrate blog’s version is very similar.  They have a full tutorial, also with sources for the material.  It looks like she didn’t use a liner either.  Hey, I will do anything not to have to do extra sewing!  The thought of sewing a zipper in scares me, but this lovey may make me be brave!

MimicDesign Leopard Clutch via Etsy

For those of you who don’t want to make your own, I found another look a like on Etsy.  Pretty close to the original for about half the price.

Would you DIY an item you were lusting after? Have you ever? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
